Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy supplements our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data more broadly.
Last Updated: March 14, 2026
1) What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help a site remember your preferences, keep sessions consistent, and understand how pages are used. Cookies can be “session” cookies (which expire when you close your browser) or “persistent” cookies (which remain for a defined period).
We also use similar technologies where appropriate, such as pixel tags or server-side event signals, to measure website performance and to understand whether content like courses and guides is being discovered. These technologies may set or read identifiers in your browser in the same way cookies do.
Cookies may be first-party (set by Celtic Journal) or third-party (set by providers that support analytics and advertising). Third-party cookies are only used when you opt in through our cookie preferences tools.
2) How we use cookies
Celtic Journal uses cookies to make the site function reliably, to understand which learning pages are useful, and to measure whether our outreach efforts are working. The platform focuses on drone education—safe operation, aerial imaging, and mapping concepts—so we aim to keep measurement practical and minimal.
- Essential cookies help the site work (for example, remembering that you set cookie preferences).
- Analytics cookies help us understand general usage patterns (for example, which guides are read most often).
- Marketing cookies help us measure advertising performance and show relevant messages, when you choose to allow them.
We do not use cookies for surveillance, and we do not use the site to track individuals across sensitive contexts. We do not knowingly collect special-category personal data via cookies (such as health information, religious beliefs, or political opinions).
3) Cookie categories used on this website
A) Essential cookies (always on)
Essential cookies are required for basic site functionality. They support core features like cookie preference storage and session continuity. These cookies do not require consent because the site cannot function properly without them.
If you block essential cookies in your browser settings, parts of the site may not operate correctly. For example, we may not be able to remember your cookie choices, and you may see the consent banner again on your next visit.
B) Analytics cookies (optional)
Analytics cookies help us measure how the website is used so we can improve navigation and content. For example, we may review which course pages are visited most, how long people spend reading a guide, or whether learners find resources through search.
When enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with IP anonymization where available. Analytics cookies activate only after you provide consent in the cookie banner or cookie preferences panel. We use a typical analytics retention period of 14 months for event data within our analytics settings.
C) Marketing cookies (optional)
Marketing cookies are used to measure advertising performance and to show relevant messages to people who have previously visited the site. For example, a person who visited our Drone Fundamentals course page may later see a reminder about the Safe Flight guide.
When enabled, marketing cookies may be set by platforms such as Google Ads and Meta. These cookies can support conversion measurement, remarketing audiences, and reporting. Marketing cookies activate only after you opt in.
4) Cookie table
The table below lists the key cookies that may be used on this website. Some cookies may only appear if specific tools are enabled and you have provided consent. Cookie names and retention may also vary based on provider updates.
| Name | Purpose | Category | Type | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| _site_session | Site session continuity | Essential | First-party | Session |
| cookie_consent | Stores your consent choice | Essential | First-party | 12 months |
| _ga | GA4 user identifier | Analytics | Third-party | 2 years |
| _ga_XXXXXXXXXX | GA4 session state (10-char GA4 ID) | Analytics | Third-party | 2 years |
| _gcl_au | Google Ads conversion linker | Marketing | Third-party | 90 days |
| _fbp | Meta Pixel browser identifier | Marketing | Third-party | 90 days |
| _fbc | Meta Pixel click identifier | Marketing | Third-party | 90 days |
If you would like a current view of cookies on your device, you can inspect them using your browser settings (for example, in “Privacy” or “Site data”). Please note that some cookies are set only after you have opted in and a tool is activated.
5) Third-party providers
Where enabled by your consent, third-party providers may process cookie identifiers and usage data to provide analytics and advertising measurement services. These providers operate under their own privacy policies.
- Google LLC (Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager): https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta Pixel and related measurement tools): https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy
- Cloudflare (security and content delivery functions): https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
We do not sell personal data. We do not permit these providers to use site data for their own independent commercial purposes.
6) Managing your cookie preferences
You can manage cookies in several ways:
- Use our cookie preferences tools: select “Manage cookie preferences” in the footer of any page to open the cookie controls.
- Browser controls: most browsers allow you to delete cookies or block them for all sites or for specific sites.
- Provider opt-outs: you can use the following tools for additional controls:
- Google Analytics opt-out: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
- Google Ads settings: https://adssettings.google.com
- Meta ad preferences: https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences
- Your Online Choices (EU): https://www.youronlinechoices.eu
If you reject non-essential cookies, the site will still work. You may see fewer relevant messages, and we will have less aggregated information to help improve course navigation and learning resources.
7) Updates to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to the cookies we use, how tools operate, or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will post an updated version on this page and revise the “Last Updated” date.
